This busy Plateau Mont-Royal haunt draws a 5 à 7 crowd with jazz in a background situation (starts at 6pm from Tuesday to Friday).The Bílý Kůň (means white horse in czech) has a row of  stuffed ostrich heads that wraps around the entire room and presents local jazz artists such as Parc-X Duo, Olivier Laroche, Benoit Gagné, Mike Evin, Chantale Morin, Annam's Family, Félix Stussi, Erik St-Jean, Alex Bellegarde, Kurt Skjaevested and many others. Let's not forget the O Patro Vys (means above in czech) on the 2nd floor that presents great jazz concerts once in a while.

Le Bistro in Vivo is a pioneer of jazz in Montréal's east end for it's jazz series held every Thursday . Healthy eats and a community setting are part of this Sainte-Catherine east cultural venue. On top of that it's their 4th anniversary October 1st !

This friendy and cozy café and restaurant on Laurier has recently starting presenting live jazz Wednesdays to Sundays with the likes Maânouche Swing, Philippe Leduc, Gregory Burton, Frédéric Pauze and Émilie Lecavalier. The music is a bit in background mode because there's no sound system. Bassist Philippe Leduc is in charge of the programming. Great coffee!

The Vendredis Jazz series at L'Espace 64 presents every last Friday of the month since January 2009 jazz artists such as Mâanouche Swing, Marie-Fatima Rudolf, Kim Zombik, Isabelle Wolfmann and Altsys Nonet, to name a few. This venue offers a creative and intimate setting with the musicians. Created by Madelaine Murphy with the help of photographer Michel Verreault, these friends of jazz facilitate the exchanges in between the always-numerous and regular participants and the musicians.  L'Espace 64 is in the Cité de Multimédia in a loft-style setting which makes it interesting.

I checked out great jazz singer and Concordia teacher Jeri Brown at the Balcon Café-Théâtre on Saturday April 18, 2009 (see a clip on TVJazz by clicking here). This new Old-Montréal venue presents a growing jazz calendar and promises some interesting jazz nights and good food (I've tried the beer and fries and it's good). A classic Old-Montreal venue, nice suggestion for a date. Music and musicians a bit in the background.

15 minutes from Montréal, host Élias Dib has a great jazz line-up every Tuesday and great lebanese food.  His Tuesday night calendar is always great with some of the best QC jazz names. Friendly, unpretentious and really not that far from Montréal...visit his website for who's playing and how to get there. (15 North - 640 east exit)

Upstairs is one of my favorite spots.  The quality of the music, great food, and a nice ambiance will make for a nice evening. Joel has one of the best jazz programming in Eastern Canada, presenting artists from Québec, Canada and the US and hosts Les Soirées Uptairs in collaboration with the 30th FIJM July 2 to July 12th.
